Seedream 4.0 image model

Seedream 4.0 mixes image creation and editing into one system. So you can make and tweak pictures all in one place without switching tools.

It runs on a tech setup using MoE-style architecture. That means it's fast and can handle heavy tasks without slowing down.

Fast and high-res. It can make 2K images in about 1.8 seconds. And it even supports 4K if you need more detail.

Batch-friendly. It can spit out up to 9 images at once while keeping the style and layout steady. That helps when making product variations or scenes that need to match. You can also load in up to 6 reference images to guide the look or style.

Simple edits. You can change an image with just one sentence, like “remove the boy” or “fix the date.” It keeps everything else looking the same, like layout or colors.

Understands prompts well. It handles design, scene layout, and text pretty cleanly. Internal tests show it does a good job keeping things accurate and nice-looking.

You can upload a bunch of reference images and generate several results all at once.

By Sept. the 12th over 43,000 votes have been cast on lmarena.ai and Seedream 4 from ByteDance took second on the Image Edit Leaderboard. It also came in fifth for text-to-image.

The rankings are based on real prompts and lots of votes, so they show what people really think. Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (nano-banana) still holds the top spot on both lists.
