Overview

Pruna helps you use top AI tools by making them smaller, faster, cheaper and more energy-saving.
The European startup has already shrunk over 9000 open models, more than anyone else.
The team has 300+ papers in machine learning.
They run research hubs in Munich and Paris. The team includes Bertrand Charpentier, Rayan Nait Mazi, and John Rachwan.

They saw a problem: big models cost too much to run, work slow, and use up lots of energy. That’s a pain for wallets and the environment. So they made this system to fix that.

Their idea is simple. Don’t start from scratch. Just shrink the model you already have. That way smaller groups or solo devs can use powerful models without fancy gear or high bills. It also helps bigger companies cut down on server costs or reduce power use.

You can use Pruna - a Python package  - for free. Just run pip install pruna and you're good to go.

If you sign up on their online platform, you also get some free time to run model shrinking jobs. Bigger companies can pay for more features, support, and unlimited use.

It includes tools like:

• Pruning. Cuts out less-needed parts of the model to make it lighter.
• Quantization. Lowers number detail in the model to save memory and speed things up.
• Compilation tweaks. Makes the code work better on the hardware you're using.
• Caching and batching. Speeds up repeats and lets you do more in one go.
• Combo pipelines. Mixes pruning, quantization, and other steps for better results.
• Model support. Works on LLMs, image tools, vision, audio, and more.
• Performance checks. Lets you compare the shrunken model to the old one to see if it's still solid.
• Deployment options. Use models on your own gear or run them through Pruna’s servers.

In Dec 2025, Pruna AI added more models built for speed and low cost with P-Image and P-Image-Edit. Both were made for fast image generation and editing without using lots of power or money. They follow Pruna’s usual style - slimmed-down models that run fast and cheap but still keep up with popular image tools.

What they are

P-Image. A text-to-image model that makes images in under a second.
P-Image-Edit. A mix of editing and image generation, made to handle multiple references and do more precise edits, including clean text on images.

You can’t download these models. They only run through Pruna’s API as part of their online AI tools. But they're ridiculously fast and cheap.
