Udio
Udio lets you turn simple text into full songs with vocals in seconds. Free to start paid tools let you remix extend and edit like a pro.
Overview
Udio is an AI song tool that takes your text and spits out short songs with vocals in a few seconds. You don’t need to know anything about music. Just type what vibe or lyrics you want and boom you get 2 half-minute clips you can keep stretching or remixing.
Launched in April 2024 it’s built by ex-Google DeepMind engineers and led by David Ding. Big names like Andreessen Horowitz will.i.am and Common put money in. It’s like Suno but gives two clips per prompt and comes with tools to help you build more from them.
Udio is free to start. You get a bunch of song generations per month. If you want more tools like longer clips style mimic and the Sessions visual editor you’ll need to pay. In June 2025 they dropped the Sessions canvas which shows chorus bridge and verse blocks you can rearrange. They also added a style-matching tool so you can say “make it sound like Bowie” and it’ll try.
Even beginners are getting slick songs that feel real. The AI writes lyrics using a language model and then builds the music around it. What powers the sound engine is private info for now.

The “BBL Drizzy” parody track went crazy viral. Over 23 million views. It sounded like a Drake song but was all AI. Another AI track made with Udio landed in Germany’s Top 50 in August 2024.
How much does it cost?
Here’s the basic rundown based on what’s out there now:

- Standard ($10–15/month). Longer clips style matching Sessions editor
- Pro ($30–40/month). Audio inpainting fast results and top priority
What about the lawsuits?
Things got spicy in mid 2024. Udio got sued by the big music labels saying they trained on copyrighted tracks without permission. Udio clapped back saying their AI just “listened” under fair use not copied. They added filters and are now talking to labels about licenses. Still a mess but they’re not alone. Others in AI music are under the same spotlight. Will it get sorted? Time will tell.

Compare With an Alternative
Comparing with: None
A mid-tempo electronic track blending traditional accordion melodies with ambient synth pads and a trip-hop drum loop. Slightly moody but groovy.
Compare ToolsGenerated on July 27, 2025:
A sad-sweet indie song with soft, whispery singing. Sounds close and lo-fi, like someone recording in their bedroom while going through stuff they’re not ready to move on from.
The singer thinks back on a thing they had after hearing an old voicemail. The song plays out like a diary... bits of late-night drives, smoking in the rain, and promises that didn’t last. No yelling, just quiet sadness and leftover feelings hanging around like static on a tape.
